उत्तिष्ठ कमलाकान्त त्रैलोक्यं मङ्गलं कुरु ॥२॥

Arise O Govinda the holder of flag with Garuda emblem; Cast aside your sleep to bestow your protection and solace to the Universe.

मातस्समस्तजगतां मधुकैटभारेः
वक्षोविहारिणि मनोहरदिव्यमूर्ते ।
श्रीस्वामिनि श्रितजनप्रियदानशीले
श्रीवेङ्कटेशदयिते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥३॥
mātassamastajagatāṃ madhukaiṭabhāreḥ
vakṣovihāriṇi manoharadivyamūrte .

Sri Lakshmi, mother of the world, you reside in the heart of Mahavisnu; O beautiful one that captures the attention of the minds of humans, O bestower of all benefits to those who fall at His feet, O dear and beloved one to Lord Venkateswara, I offer these morning Pranams to you.

तव सुप्रभातमरविन्दलोचने
भवतु प्रसन्नमुखचन्द्रमण्डले ।
विधिशङ्करेन्द्रवनिताभिरर्चिते
वृशशैलनाथदयिते दयानिधे ॥४॥
tava suprabhātamaravindalocane
bhavatu prasannamukhacandramaṇḍale .
vidhiśaṅkarendravanitābhirarcite

O Devi, good morning to you whose eyes are like the lotus and the bright face of the full moon; the consorts of Brahma, Sankara and Indra pay their respects to you the ocean of mercy dear to the Lord of the Vrishabadri.

अत्र्यादिसप्तऋषयस्समुपास्य सन्ध्यां
आकाशसिन्धुकमलानि मनोहराणि ।
आदाय पादयुगमर्चयितुं प्रपन्नाः
शेषाद्रिशेखरविभो तव सुप्रभातम् ॥५॥
atryādisaptaṛṣayassamupāsya sandhyāṃ
ākāśasindhukamalāni manoharāṇi .
ādāya pādayugamarcayituṃ prapannāḥ

O resident of Sehadri, the seven holy rishis headed by Atri, having performed their morning sandhya, are at your feet offering beautiful lotuses and the waters of heavenly rivers, please receive them.

पञ्चाननाब्जभवषण्मुखवासवाद्याः
त्रैविक्रमादिचरितं विबुधाः स्तुवन्ति ।
भाषापतिः पठति वासरशुद्धिमारात्
शेषाद्रिशेखरविभो तव सुप्रभातम् ॥६॥
pañcānanābja bhava ṣaṇmukhavāsavādyāḥ
traivikramādicaritaṃ vibudhāḥ stuvanti .
bhāṣāpatiḥ paṭhati vāsaraśuddhimārāt

आवाति मन्दमनिलस्सह दिव्यगन्धैः

O Sehadri vasa, the morning scene is beautiful with the tossing of water lillies, cocoanut trees and transplanted young paddy fields, the morning breeze is blowing carrying pleasant smells, good morning to you

उन्मील्य नेत्रयुगमुत्तमपञ्जरस्थाः
पात्रावशिष्टकदलीफलपायसानि ।
भुक्त्वा सलीलमथ केलिशुकाः पठन्ति
शेषाद्रिशेखरविभो तव सुप्रभातम् ॥८॥
unmīlya netrayugamuttamapañjarasthāḥ
pātrāvaśiṣṭakadalīphalapāyasāni .
bhuktvā salīlamatha keliśukāḥ paṭhanti

O Venkateswara, the temple parrots are singing pleasantly after having tasted the fruits, payasa in your Pooja vessels and quenching their thirst; I pray for a good morning to you.

तन्त्रीप्रकर्षमधुरस्वनया विपञ्च्या
गायत्यनन्तचरितं तव नारदोऽपि ।
भाषासमग्रमसकृत्करचाररम्यं
शेषाद्रिशेखरविभो तव सुप्रभातम् ॥९॥
tantrīprakarṣamadhurasvanayā vipañcyā

योषागणेन वरदध्नि विमथ्यमाने
घोषालयेषु दधिमन्थनतीव्रघोषाः ।
रोषात्कलिं विदधते ककुभश्च कुम्भाः

padmeśamitraśatapatragatālivargāḥ

śrīmannabhīṣṭa varadākhila lokabandho

O Srinivasa, bestower of all desired boons, closest kith and kin of the universe, ocean of compassion, O Lord of charming beautiful form in the abode of the Gods, let this morn bring glory to you.

श्रीस्वामिपुष्करिणिकाप्लवनिर्मलाङ्गाः
श्रेयोऽर्थिनो हरविरिञ्चसनन्दनाद्याः ।
द्वारे वसन्ति वरवेत्रहतोत्तमाङ्गाः
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥१४॥
śrī svāmi puṣkariṇikāplava nirmalāṅgāḥ
śreyo’rthino hara viriñca sanandanādyāḥ .
dvāre vasanti varavetra hatottamāṅgāḥ

Having taken their holy dip in the Swami pushkarini, Gods like Brahma and Siva and sages such as Sanandana are waiting at the door for your Dharsan with their hands raised holding the rattan cane (for controlling the crowds). Glorious morning to you.

श्रीशेषशैल गरुडाचलवेङ्कटाद्रि
नारायणाद्रि वृषभाद्रिवृषाद्रि मुख्याम् ।
आख्यां त्वदीयवसतेरनिशं वदन्ति
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥१५॥
śrīśeṣaśaila garuḍācalaveṅkaṭādri
nārāyaṇādri vṛṣabhādrivṛṣādri mukhyām .

Glory to you O Venkatesa, whose abode is described incessantly in the Holy books, variously as Seshachala, Garudachala, Venkatadri, Narayanadri, Vrishabahadri and Vrishadri.

सेवापराश्शिवसुरेशकृशानुधर्म
रक्षोऽम्बुनाथ पवमान धनादिनाथाः ।
बद्धाञ्जलि प्रविलसन्निजशीर्ष देशाः
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥१६॥
sevāparāśśiva sureśa kṛśānudharma
rakṣo’mbunātha pavamāna dhanādināthāḥ .
baddhāñjali pravilasannijaśīrṣa deśāḥ
śrīveṅkaṭācalapate tava suprabhātam ..16..
O Lord! desirous of serving you, Siva and Indra with their heads bowed and Kubera the lord of wealth and the protectors of the eight directions (Dikpalakas) with their hands tied in front in reverence are waiting for you.

धाटीषु ते विहगराज मृगाधिराज
नागाधिराज गजराज हयाधिराजाः ।
स्वस्वाधिकार महिमाधिकमर्थयन्ते
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥१७॥
dhāṭīṣu te vihagarāja mṛgādhirāja
nāgādhirāja gajarāja hayādhirājāḥ .
svasvādhikāra mahimādhika marthayante

सूर्येन्दु भौम बुध वाक्पति काव्यसौरि
स्वर्भानु केतु दिविषत्परिषत्प्रधानाः ।
त्वद्दास दास चरमावधि दासदासाः
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥१८॥
sūryendu bhauma budha vākpati kāvyasauri
svarbhānu ketu diviṣatpariṣatpradhānāḥ .
tvaddāsa dāsa caramāvadhi dāsadāsāḥ
śrīveṅkaṭācalapate tava suprabhātam ..18..

त्वत्पादधूलि भरितस्फुरितोत्तमाङ्गाः
स्वर्गापवर्ग निरपेक्ष निजान्तरङ्गाः ।
कल्पागमाकलनयाकुलतां लभन्ते
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥१९॥
tvatpādadhūli bharitasphuritottamāṅgāḥ
svargāpavarga nirapekṣa nijāntaraṅgāḥ .
kalpāgamākalanayākulatāṃ labhante
śrīveṅkaṭācalapate tava suprabhātam ..19..
Your devotees having ben purified by the dust of your feet, are serving you with intense devotion forgetting their real interest in Moksha and doubting whether they could get this opportunity in their next birth or not.

त्वद्गोपुराग्रशिखराणि निरीक्षमाणाः
स्वर्गापवर्गपदवीं परमां श्रयन्तः ।
मर्त्या मनुष्यभुवने मतिमाश्रयन्ते
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥२०॥
tvadgopurāgraśikharāṇi nirīkṣamāṇāḥ
svargāpavargapadavīṃ paramāṃ śrayantaḥ .
martyā manuṣyabhuvane matimāśrayante
śrīveṅkaṭācalapate tava suprabhātam ..20..
O Venkateswara, people who came interested in Moksha samrajya look at the Vimana (crown) of your temple and want to serve you in this earthly abode forgetting what they came for.

श्रीभूमिनायक दयादिगुणामृताब्धे
देवाधिदेव जगदेकशरण्यमूर्ते ।
श्रीमन्ननन्तगरुडादिभिरर्चिताङ्घ्रे
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥२१॥
śrībhūmināyaka dayādiguṇāmṛtābdhe

dhṛtvā’dya vaidika śikhāmaṇayaḥ prahṛṣṭāḥ

भास्वानुदेति विकचानि सरोरुहाणि
सम्पूरयन्ति निनदैः ककुभो विहङ्गाः ।
श्रीवैष्णवास्सततमर्थितमङ्गलास्ते
धामाश्रयन्ति तव वेङ्कट सुप्रभातम् ॥२६॥
bhāsvānudeti vikacāni saroruhāṇi
sampūrayanti ninadaiḥ kakubho vihaṅgāḥ .

ब्रह्मादयस्सुरवरास्समहर्षयस्ते
सन्तस्सनन्दनमुखास्तवथ योगिवर्याः ।
धामान्तिके तव हि मङ्गलवस्तुहस्ताः
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥२७॥
brahmādayas sura varās sa maharṣayaste
santas sanandana mukhās tavatha yogi varyāḥ .
dhāmāntike tava hi maṅgalavastuhastāḥ
śrīveṅkaṭācalapate tava suprabhātam ..27..
O Venkatesa, Gods like Brahma, sadhus and yogeeswaras like Sanaka and Sanantana, are waiting at your gates bearing auspicous Pooja materials. Morning glory to you.

लक्ष्मीनिवास निरवद्यगुणैकसिन्धो
संसार सागर समुत्तरणैकसेतो ।
वेदान्तवेद्यनिजवैभव भक्तभोग्य
श्रीवेङ्कटाचलपते तव सुप्रभातम् ॥२८॥
lakṣmīnivāsa niravadyaguṇaikasindho
saṃsāra sāgara samuttaraṇaikaseto .
vedāntavedyanijavaibhava bhaktabhogya

O Lord the abode of Lakhmi, the ocean of good qualities, the only boat to cross the ocean of Samsara, the true knowledge sought by Vedanta(Upanishads), the lord of ture glory enjoyed by devotees,glory to you

इत्थं वृषाचलपतेरिह सुप्रभातं
ये मानवाः प्रतिदिनं पठितुं प्रवृत्ताः ।
तेषां प्रभातसमये स्मृतिरङ्गभाजां
प्रज्ञां परार्थसुलभां परमां प्रसूते ॥२९॥
itthaṃ vṛṣācalapateriha suprabhātaṃ
ye mānavāḥ pratidinaṃ paṭhituṃ pravṛttāḥ .
teṣāṃ prabhātasamaye smṛtiraṅgabhājāṃ
prajñāṃ parārthasulabhāṃ paramāṃ prasūte ..29..
(Salutations to Sri Govinda) Thus ends the Suprabhatam of the lord of Vrishachala hill here,
Those persons who will engage themselves in reciting this everyday with devotion,
And at dawn will worship Sri Govinda with mind and body and with intense devotion,
For them the highest attainment of spiritual wisdom will become easy by the grace of the supreme awakened in their hearts.

Description

This shlokam is taken from Sri Valmiki’s Srimadh Ramayanam. During the journey with Sage Viswamitra, both Rama and Lakshmana had rested for the night on the banks of the Ganga river. As the dawn was about to break, Sage Viswamitra cheerfully awakens the brothers to perform Sandyavandhanam.
