Aksharamalika Shiva Stotram Introduction

Also called the Shiva Akshara Mala Stotram, this is a very popular hymn dedicated to Lord Shiva, composed in the aksharamalika style, where each verse or section follows an alphabetical sequence of the Sanskrit alphabet. This structured poetic composition is a way of glorifying the deity while showcasing linguistic artistry.

अद्भुतविग्रह अमराधीश्वर अगणितगुणगण अमितशिव
साम्बसदाशिव साम्बसदाशिव साम्बसदाशिव साम्बशिव ॥
adbhutavigraha amarādhīśvara agaṇitaguṇagaṇa amitaśiva
sāmbasadāśiva sāmbasadāśiva sāmbasadāśiva sāmbaśiva .. 1
I bow to Lord Shiva, whose form is wondrous, the lord of immortals, and the possessor of infinite virtues and immeasurable glory.
Oh eternal Shiva united with Parvati, Oh eternal Shiva united with Parvati, Oh eternal Shiva united with Parvati, Oh Shiva united with Parvati. (This refrain is to be repeated below for each verse)

आनन्दामृत आश्रितरक्षक आत्मानन्द महेश शिव

khaḍgaśūlamr̥gaḍhakkādyāyudha vikramarūpa viśvēśa śiva

लालितभक्तजनेश निजेश्वर कालिनटेश्वर काम शिव
