ॐकारं बिंदुसंयुक्तं नित्यं ध्यायंति योगिनः ।
कामदं मोक्षदं चैव ॐकाराय नमो नमः ॥१॥

oṃkāraṃ biṃdusaṃyuktaṃ nityaṃ dhyāyaṃti yoginaḥ .
kāmadaṃ mokṣadaṃ caiva oṃkārāya namo namaḥ ..1..

Salutations and salutations to letter “om”,
Which is meditated as a letter Om with a dot,
Daily by great sages,
And leads them to fulfillment of desires,
And attainment of salvation.

नमंति ऋषयो देवा नमन्त्यप्सरसां गणाः ।
नरा नमंति देवेशं नकाराय नमो नमः ॥२॥

namaṃti ṛṣayo devā namantyapsarasāṃ gaṇāḥ .
narā namaṃti deveśaṃ nakārāya namo namaḥ ..2..

Salutations and salutations to letter “na”,
Which is saluted by great sages,
Which is saluted by groups of divine maidens,
And which is saluted by men and the king of devas.

महादेवं महात्मानं महाध्यानं परायणम् ।
महापापहरं देवं मकाराय नमो नमः ॥३॥

mahādevaṃ mahātmānaṃ mahādhyānaṃ parāyaṇam .
mahāpāpaharaṃ devaṃ makārāya namo namaḥ ..3..

Which is saluted as greatest god,
Which is saluted by great souls,
Which is greatly meditated and read,
And which is the stealer of all sins.

शिवं शांतं जगन्नाथं लोकानुग्रहकारकम् ।
शिवमेकपदं नित्यं शिकाराय नमो नमः ॥४॥

śivaṃ śāṃtaṃ jagannāthaṃ lokānugrahakārakam .
śivamekapadaṃ nityaṃ śikārāya namo namaḥ ..4..

Which is Lord Shiva,
Who is the abode of peace,
Who is the lord of the universe,
Who is the one who blesses the world,
And which is the one word that is eternal.

वाहनं वृषभो यस्य वासुकिः कंठभूषणम् ।
वामे शक्तिधरं देवं वकाराय नमो नमः ॥५॥

vāhanaṃ vṛṣabho yasya vāsukiḥ kaṃṭhabhūṣaṇam .
vāme śaktidharaṃ devaṃ vakārāya namo namaḥ ..5..

Which the God who holds in his left Goddess Shakthi,
And who rides on a bull,
And wears on his neck the snake Vasuki.

यत्र यत्र स्थितो देवः सर्वव्यापी महेश्वरः ।
यो गुरुः सर्वदेवानां यकाराय नमो नमः ॥६॥

yatra yatra sthito devaḥ sarvavyāpī maheśvaraḥ .
yo guruḥ sarvadevānāṃ yakārāya namo namaḥ ..6..

Which is the teacher of all the devas,
Who exists wherever gods exist,
And who is the great God spread everywhere

षडक्षरमिदं स्तोत्रं यः पठेच्छिवसंनिधौ ।
शिवलोकमवाप्नोति शिवेन सह मोदते ॥७॥

ṣaḍakṣaramidaṃ stotraṃ yaḥ paṭhecchivasaṃnidhau .
śivalokamavāpnoti śivena saha modate ..7..

If one reads this prayer of six letters,
In front of God shiva,
He would reach the world of Shiva,
And be always happy with him.

Description

Shiva Shadakshara Stotram is a powerful Lord Shiva prayer addressed to the six lettered mantra of Shiva: “Om Namah Shivaya”. Hence the name Shad Akshara or 6 letters. The Shiva Sadakshara Stotram is found in the famous Rudrayamala Tantra text. Rudra Yamala Tantra is part of the Bhairava Agama canon of Shaivism as well as Tantric canon of Shaktism.

In this Hexa-Syllabic Hymn, there is a single stanza mantra for each letter of Aum-Na-Ma-Shi-Va-Ya. It is believed that anyone who recites Shiva Shadakshara Mantra in front of Lord Shiva, daily with devotion, faith and concentration will attain Happiness and Moksha.
